I don’t think that it is possible to make the perfect perfume that appeals to all people because there are so many different smells that some people like and others dislike. Also using so many different chemicals that smell so different, cinnamon, chocolate, lemon extract, without considering how they will smell when added together or even how they may react. Real ‘noses’ use chemistry when making their perfumes to ensure that different chemicals won’t react adversely, but they also consider how the different smells will combine aromatically.

I think that it is not possible to design the perfect perfume. This is because there isn't anything objective that everyone likes the smell of. I don't think a perfect perfume can ever be created. Different people have different opinions on what they believe smells good. Trying to combine a bunch of different chemicals with certain odors that seem appealing to people just doesn't work. Chocolate, cinnamon, lemon, vanilla, and flowers individually are great, but throw them all together and our sense of smell is overwhelmed.

I feel like these guys are completely messing around though, as seen with the name, and I agree with Matilda, Blake, and Bunny that what smells "good" is subjective, so there is no perfect perfume. I thought it was pretty cool how each person put in their own idea of what would make a good perfume...from lemon, to red dye, to chocolate, to a ladybug's hormone?!...and it seemed that none of them knew what the others had put in! Maybe if they had known they were mixing lemon and cinnamon and a candy bar, they would have organized themselves better?

Making a perfume that will last all day would be a wonderful idea. But it was a little bit confusing when the first scientist put ladybug matting chemical into the bottle, because perfumes are for humans to smell good and to attract other humans not bugs. After all the scientists put there chemicals into the bottle I thought all the chemicals would react in a big mess.

I believe it is impossible to make the perfect perfume because everyone’s senses vary and so what some might find an appeasing smell, others might find disgusting. There is also the factor of allergies; perfumes contain ingredients which many are allergic too, such as the chocolate the man added. Because of variations in each person’s senses and the allergy factor which many perfumes tend to posses, it is near impossible to create the perfect perfume.

If by "perfect perfume" we mean a perfume that will be found most appealibg by everybody everywhere, then it is impossible to make a perfect perfume. Personally, I don't believe that scientists could possibly make the "perfect" perfume for humans due to the fact that each person has an individual personality, and may be attracted to drastically different scents than other people are. I don't think we can make the perfect perfume. Humans are all attracted to different smells that bring up nice memories for them. One person may like how one perfume smells but another might not just because of what the smell trigers. Also I know that i get tried of how one perfume smells so i will often change my perfumes just because I've gotten tried of one that I've been wearing to long. But just by combining different smells that one might find applying doesn't mean the end product will be as nice. In the video one of the guys used a cinnamon smelling chemical mixed with other chemicals, at the end of making his perfume you might not smell the cinnamon anymore and discover a smell that is much more unpleasant. So no we cannot design the perfect perfume.

No, I do not believe it is possible to design a perfume which appeals to everyone. I do believe however that some can appeal to the majority since, in some cases, society can say overall that a certain smell is nice, like flowers. Unfortunately, the perfect perfume can never exist though because each person has their own sensitivity to or association with a smell that cannot be universal because the sense is so subjective.
It is impossible to make the "perfect perfume." There is no universal smell that appeals to all human noses; for example: someone could like floral smells, whereas another could find that smell repulsive. Mixing different smells of what one perceives as "good" could have detrimental effects on the perfume.

I really don't think that people can design the perfect perfume, because as each person is different--having their own unique genetic, and above all other things, spiritual identities, different things appeal to them. The combination of chemicals that the "periodic videos" are trying to incorporate in the scents, might not be at all what people find pleasant, and as they mentioned in the video, perfume companies have "noses" who are specially trained to develop scents that are not only pleasant, but also targeted to please a wide variety of individuals in the public.
On a final note, the appearance of the perfume is also an important factor, the red dye use might stain the skin, or the clothing, and that is something that should be kept in mind. Picking perfumes can be a long process, as each person looks for something specific.

I do not think you can make the "perfect" perfume, though you may be able to come close. "Perfect" seems to imply that everyone would love it, and no matter how lovely the smell, it's not possible for that to happen. You can combine a variety of smell and like the woman in the video, it could be a nice enough smell, however she still wouldn't have used it. Therefore, it would be impossible to make the perfect perfume across the board. Also, in this video they use such a wide variety of scents and substances that it would most likely cause a less pleasurable smell because it is not certain which would turn people off from it.

No, because no matter how hard a scientists tries who make perfumes, can't make it absolutely prefect, in any shape or form. lets think of it like this for example: a female goes to by some perfume at a local collage store of perfumes, and she is looking for a perfume that will make her attractive to a guy she might like, or likes, and she can't decide on which one she ones to buy. Now the reason for that is that there are sensative pores in her nostrals that can detect the slightest wave of scent that she inhales, and that scent that she smells, or inhales to see which one she wants to buy, is all processed in her part of the brain that signals to her other part of her five senses, that would be her eyes, and nose. Now this sense is happening so fast, at a rate just a bit faster then when she blinks her eyes shut. as a person grows older, and mature, so does that specific senses in her nostrals change slightly, but that slight change is all that is needed to confuse that female from deciding quickly on that perfume. That is why scientists make more than one perfume, and they know that what happens in a person's internal body senses changes as that person matures and grows up. Also notice how when you are with your mom next time at ulta, watch and pay close attention as how her body language changes as she smells different types of perfumes. Also think about how your own sense of smell changes or differs from that one month ago, when u picked out your good smelling perfume when you thought that it was the perfect one.
Now go back to that same store as when you bought that same perfume, and lets see if you notice the difference in your change of smell. Likely that you will pick up another different type of perfume and say that it smells better than the first one you bought last month ago.

I have also heard that the same perfume can react differently to each person's skin, although i do not know if this is a fact. It is not possible to make the perfect perfume that appeals to everyone. Different people have different preferences on smells and whether they smell good or not. That being said, making the perfect perfume would be subjective. This means that making the perfect perfume is impossible.

No, everyone has differerent likes and dislikes. The lady in the video liked Boron when another man liked chocolate, those two are completely opposite from each other. The man that put in Citronellol said that that was very nostalgic to him, and enjoyed the zesty smell, not all people may like the smell of lemons as much as he does. Other people would choose ingredients that are nostalgic to them.

In my opinion the perfected perfume cannot be created because with our human senses the "cream of the crop" is always considered subjectively. What may be the best smelling perfume in the whole world to one person ma actually be quite revolting for the next. As seen in the video, the chemists each had something different in mind when they wanted to add the best smelling chemical, from chocolate to vanillin. Similarly, we each have a different scent that comes to our minds when asked what would the most perfect perfume smell like.

I think that it is impossible to create a perfume that smells good to everyone. Not everybody has the same idea of what smells nice and what doesn't. There can't be one universal smell that can be accepted by everyone.

I believe that we cannot make the perfect perfume chemically because the sense of smell is subjective. For example, in the video one man said that he put citronellal, which he said was like citrus, because the “molecule was quite nostalgic” for him; I, on the other hand, personally do not find the scent of citrus to be that appealing nor nostalgic considering that I tend to smell that very scent almost every lunch period at school. Furthermore in the video, another man noted that he put platinum in the perfume since it was “glamorous.” It is self-evident that throughout time the concept of glamour has constantly changed and therefore may not be liked by future generations. Lastly, my question is why would we bother trying to make the perfect perfume if we already have such diverse scents in nature that everyone can pick from as the best for them?

Everyone is different and don't like the same smells, things or ideas. So I doubt everyone will be pleased by this perfect perfume. So I don't think its a good idea.

I don't think a perfect perfume can be possible in that different people have different personal tastes in the types of perfumes there are. There is no way of having every single person like the perfume, because there will be some scent that one person will not like.

I don't think it is possible to make the perfect perfume. Because each person is attracted to different smells. Some people prefer a perfume that is more floral while others would rather have something more sweet. There can't very well be a single perfume that every person in the world prefers. That just isn't logical.

Like most everyone else has been saying, it would not be possible to create the "perfect perfume" per say. The reason being that everyone would have a different idea of what perfect would be. "Perfect Perfume" is such a general label that it would be impossible for anyone to agree on what would be perfect. Everyone has a different view of what would be "perfect" because it is such a subjective subject. There is no way that it would ever be possible. That is disregarding the fact that one could just be trying to make the perfect perfume for one special person. Then it would be a feasible task. Aside from that, I don't belive it possible. Also two scents seperate may smell good, but if you put them together it may smell less than desireable. Not to mention the results could be a ... let's say, ... explosive. Or possibly right down shocking. Heh heh. Get it? That's all.

I believe that a perfect perfume can be achieved. Going against the common theme of the comments i think that if a specific chemical mixture is achieved then it while appeal to people at a molecular level. this perfume may not have a distinct pleasant smell but it would effect everyones brain in a positive way which would in turn create a perfect perfume.

I don't think it is possible to create a perfect smell. People are diverse, and like food, everyone has their own idea of what they like. Plus people have different allergies. To create a perfect perfume it must be one that nobody is allergic to or it won't be perfect.

A "Perfect Perfume" seems plausible, but not possible. It is very improbable that everyone in the world would all like the same perfume. If it were possible, it would have already been created.

I don’t think it’s possible to create a perfume that everyone will like. Everyone has a different idea of what the perfect perfume is, so it is impossible to make something that fits everyone’s criteria. One person may like the scent of vanilla while the next person could be allergic to it. There are so many different scents that it is hard to even come close to the perfect perfume.

In my opinion, it is not possible to design the perfect perfume, because everybody has different smells that are appealing to them. What one person might think smells good to them, might not be a smell that is endearing to another person.

I don't think it's possible to create the "perfect perfume" because smell is mainly a subjective sense. What smells good to me may not smell good to the person next to me. I personally like a perfume that contains a sweet smell (cinnamon, vanilla, etc.), whereas another person might prefer the more stronger, almost bitter perfumes.

In my opinion, I don't think it's possible to make a perfume that would please everyone. Because everyone has different opinions on different smells, a perfume that would be perfect for someone, might smell terrible to someone else. In the video, each person added something that would smell good but that is only their opinion not an accepted truth.

I think that the "perfect perfume" is a completely subjective and circumstantial concept. It would, in theory, stimulate the production of endorphins which produce a feeling of happiness. Ideally, it could appeal to (a) specific reactant/s in the chemistry of a specific brain and would "complete" a void in the chemical makeup. This perfume is not universal, but is genetically detailed to each individual human being.

Hm. It's hard to say, on one of the spectrum I think it would take alot of testing to get the right perfume but as many people before said, not everyone likes the scent of one singular thing, so it would probably be worth it to see how to create one fragrance with many different other smells that attract to the majority of the population. For example one could not like smoking, but the musky, almost woody, taste of a smoked cigar in the air attracts to them. Whereas for another person, they like the smell of ice cream, but cannot eat it because they don't like the complete taste of it. After all, taste is 70% of your initial smell.

I dont think it is truly possible for a 100% perfect perfume to be made due to how differently everyone's sense of smell is developed. For instance most people love the smell of freshly baked cookies but change that into the neutral smell of onions and there's a whole different reaction;some people like the smell, some don't.

In my opinion there is no perfume that could be scientifically put together to appeal to the complexity of every human nose. Human beings have way too many varying opinions when it comes to the uses of the senses. Maybe a smell could appeal to a majority of people but most definitely not the entirety.

Honestly, having a "perfect perfume" is strictly a matter of opinion. What one might say is the "perfect" one may be the worst one to another. Because everyone's sense of smell is remotely different from everyone else (that's one of the things that sets apart from each other, our individuality) it is unlikely to create a perfume that will satisfy everyone. When we factor in a person's sensitivity and allergens, it is impossible that we can know which ingredients will not case a reaction in everyone.

In my opinion it is not possible to create the perfect perfume for everyone. I think it is possible to create a perfume for one paticular person, but to use the same perfume on everyone, no. This being because everyone has a certain body aroma. Everybody's natural body scent is different. So if you use the same perfume on everyone the overall smell would be different. It may smell good on one girl, but not as good on the other.

I think it depends on the purpose of the perfume to truly classify it as "perfect". For example if the perfume is designed to ward away insects, a perfect rating could probably be achieved depending on the level of insects repelled. In the sense of a body spray I do not think is possible to determine a perfect scent as everyone has different preferences.

I think, the perfect perfume does not necessarily have to do with scents that we can necessarily "smell". The perfect perfume would be purely a use of pheremones that our nasal receptors can pick up, sending a message to our brain that that person is "attractive". If someone were to try to come up with a perfect perfume that we could actually smell, it would be nearly impossible because everyone has different smells that they perceive as pleasing.

No, I think it is impossible to make the perfect perfume because of one simple rule. We are all made genetically and psychologically different. Genetically, because we might not like a certain smell just because we don't like how it smells with no real explanation. Psychologically, because we might have remembered A certain smell when something bad happened in our lifetime and when we smell that smell again it reminds us of the event. So I don't think it's possible, and besides that, it's not even worth it.

Hello! I could not find a recent blog subject for the Jan 10th 2014 assignment, so I'll comment on this Perfect Perfume question. Sorry.
I believe, because there are a vast amount of tastes and preferences when it comes to perfumes, creating the perfect perfume which all of humanity (past, present, and future; male and female; young and old) would love, is impossible. The standard of what smells good changes and evolves with each era, as does the opinions of a person as he/she ages. So to create a perfume perfect for everyone, anywhere and anytime, is highly impossible.

Well the fact that the girl said see wouldn't use it makes it not the perfect perfume, but I, going against the comments, do believe there is a perfect perfume. In this perfect perfume must be things that every single person finds beautiful, not attractive but beautiful. The elements going into these perfumes were based of smell, like a flowers or vanilla, but those aren't the most "nosey" things in the world. To create the world's greatest perfume a scientist must figure out what is the most beautiful, find its smell and put it in a bottle.

I do not think it is possible to make the perfect perfume. Because God was such an amazing creator, He made each and every one of us very unique. That means humans are all attracted to different smells. If one were to put too many chemicals in a mixture, it would probably all clash and smell terrible.

In my opinion, making the perfect perfume would be next to impossible, seeing as though almost no two people could be appealed to with the same type of chemical (smell). Individual hygiene, personal body odor, and other practices could also present quite a difficult challenge in the making of the perfect perfume. This means that even if chemists could produce one perfume to please everyone, the effect could still be disrupted by the person's own hygiene and practices relating to this. Then it would also be extremely difficult to try and create one chemical that could complement everyone's personal habits, in order to counter their effect. I say that this is another great example of how God chose to make no two people the same. God bless you all.

My opinion is that you can't make a perfume that 100% of the world will like, some people like the smell of gasoline and others the smell of flowers you obviously can't combine those two and get a nice smell appealing to the two people. Moral of it is its probably impossible to make a perfect perfume.
