1st Question---I think it is very interesting and almost hard to believe because I thought that fungi only lived on trees or wood and stuff. 2nd Question---Possibly but I highly doubt it.
PS: It what a very nice and informative article. Your student, Mike

I think it is intresting, but if radistion is in wouldn't it be bad for us?

I think that it is very interesting that fungi absorb radiation. As for using it in the future, I think that nuclear power plants or other places that emit radiation will grow fungi to decrease radiation.

i didnt know that "the capacity to use radioactivity as an energy source for making food and spurring their growth" i thought that that was very interesting. i dont think that there is a application somewhere down the road though. - ryan hoskins

Wow this article is very interesing because they were talking about menaile being a type of fungus, that was on the robot. But menaile is in our skin.

I never knew hat anything could eat radiation, its pretty cool, but I'm not sure how you could appy the fungi for anything.

Fungi that is energized by radiation sounds pretty interesting. No, I don't think this could be used later on.

I found this article very interesting, but their were a lot of big words so i am a bit confused. From what i did understand i think it could be used in cancer treatment, since it mentioned skin cells, perhaps they could make something for skin cancer or skin deseases. As for the astronauts, well that sounds like a good idea in theory, using something nobody likes to explore the universe and live and all, but don't you think, about how they said they could eat it, isn't that kind of nasty? I know I wouldn't eat fungi. But fungi radiation, and stuff seems to have a promising future, yes.
Umm i also thought we were doing a blog on the movie so...Im confused again. O_o

Homework 1/3/11 Wow....that's pretty weird. I don't really know much about fungi...so the fact that it feeds on radiation is kind of more disgusting to me than helpful. I mean, I kind of have the mindset that who needs more fungi? However, if you can get penicillin out of it (right?) and potentially food for astronauts out of it, I guess it might be handy to have around. What I find more interesting is that the same substance in our bodies might have the same reaction. It's been generally acknowledged that radiation is bad for the body in large amounts....but now it could actually increase energy? Interesting.

I think it is very interesting. I did not know that fungi could be energized by radiation. It is very nice to know that many things, especially fungi could be energized by radiation. I do not think it would be something big in the future. And PERIOD 3B IS THE BEST... AND MS. BURGESS LOVE US THE MOST.
This article was very interesting even though I did not understand most of it. It's cool to see the steps she took in makinf this new state of matter. I look forward to learing more about it in the future and hopefully understanding it better.

I think the fact that some fungi are energized by radiation, is a pretty interesting topic. I think that this topic deserves more research, so that we can discover how the plant turns radiation into energy. Once we discover how the plant recieves energy, we can perhaps invent a application for this discovery.
I think it would be cool if fungi can absorb radiation. I dont think it can lead to ' new applications ' but probably lead scientists in the right direction in finding something even better.

The idea of magnetically levitated trains is fascinating, but there is one very important thing to consider: if trains are levitated off the tracks, then all the stories about a bad guy tying a girl to the track to then have the hero rescue her will make absolutely no sense. :]

I thought that the idea of using this new discovery as a way to improve the way trains work and also that it didnt waste any energy that it put off. It's like a super atom. I think it could possibly be used sometime in the future... but I don't see it happenning anytime soon.

I find it intriguing that an organism can be energized by radiation. The ability for a plant to turn radiation into energy could offer for new ways to create energy down the road. This topic definitely deserves more research.

I think fungi absorbing radiation is pretty interesting. I wander what types of things could scientist do with this and what can be applied with it.
I think that finding out about this Fungi absorbing radiation was different and kind of interesting. When i found out they might use this for the future in maybe foods i thaught yuck. then i found out that it is no different chemically from the melanin in our skin i thaught that was cool.

This was a very interseting article. I doubt that it can be used for anything in the future but it would be cool.
